About Me
I was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I then attended East Carolina University, where I graduated with a Master of Arts in Reading Education. I am certified as an M-Level Reading Specialist, and also certified to teach kindergarten through sixth grade, Exceptional Children General Curriculum K-12, Exceptional Children Adapted Curriculum K-12, and middle grades mathematics. I am currently teaching 6th-8th grade Exceptional Children, supplemental reading and math.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for over four years, and we enjoy camping, hiking, and being outdoors. We have two rescue animals, a dog and a cat, and we love them dearly. I also participate in endurance riding, and have an Arabian gelding named Bodhi. As an educator, I am passionate about helping students work to overcome their academic difficulties, allowing them to pursue whatever it is they wish to do in their future. I pursued a Master's Degree in Reading Education at East Carolina University in hopes of learning the best ways to help my students that struggle with reading. I decided to pursue this degree after my first couple of years teaching in the Exceptional Children's setting, and seeing how detrimental it is for students when they lack necessary reading skills. I have also always been an avid reader, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to apply my skills as a Reading Specialist to help my struggling readers on a daily basis. |
